    Description

From the Diary of a Seducer; the Spells of a Woman (Leopold Hauk, 1929). Austrian Poster (37.5" X 49.5").
A little known German Marlene Dietrich film, From the Diary of a Seducer also stars Willi Forst as a wealthy Dutch lothario who is saved from death at the hands of a jealous husband by an American (Ernst Stahl-Nachbaur). The two becomes friends, that is until Forst brags of seducing a naive young woman, who is seemingly the American's fiancee (Dietrich). This film was made shortly before Dietrich played Lola-Lola in Josef von Sternberg's Blue Angel (1930), a movie that brought her mainstream success and international fame. For Paramount, the German star was its answer to MGM's Swedish sensation, Greta Garbo. Although deceased for several years before this poster was created, Viennese artist Gustav Klimt's influence can be seen on this striking Austrian piece from the film. It has been linen backed and touchup applied to tears in the top and left border the background and in the top and right into the blue background, creasing along the folds and in the background, and a bit of offset ghosting in the top left background. This is the first time Heritage has presented any paper from this film, making this large format beauty an incredible find for Dietrich fans! Very Fine- on Linen.
