Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy (Warner Bros. - Vitagraph, R-1937). Fine- on Kraft Paper. Stock One Sheet (27" X 41") "All-American Drawback."
In a reversal of roles, ventriloquist Edgar Bergen sits on his dummy Charlie McCarthy's lap on this fun poster, advertising the reissue of the 1935 short All-American Drawback. This stock one sheet was done for a collection of re-released comedy shorts starring this popular duo after Bergen's radio show became one of the most listened to on the air. Critics were astounded a ventriloquist was so popular without being seen, but the brilliant comedy repartee was the reason for the success, not the visuals. Backed on Kraft paper, this one sheet has fold wear and separation, pinholes, a couple of dust shadows, and small tears. There is a snipe in the imprint area with a paper lift off of the side, a paper lift with touchup in Charlie's eye, and some staining and smudging.
