Description
Duck Soup (Paramount, 1933). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (42" X 79.5") Style A, Sam Berman Artwork.Heritage has the greatest pleasure in making its first-ever presentation of this extremely rare three sheet, so rare that it is thought to be the only known copy of the format. Now regarded as one of the the greatest Marx Brothers movies ever made, the comedians' last film at Paramount would also mark Zeppo's final appearance on the silver screen. Though not the "flop" some make it out to be, Duck Soup surprisingly didn't perform quite as well at the box office as other Marx Brothers movies, receiving only tepid reviews from critics. Today, however, it is now seen as one of Hollywood's best political satires alongside the likes of The Great Dictator and Dr. Strangelove. Though the Brothers intended for the film to be viewed purely as comedy and not social commentary, they were nevertheless delighted when Benito Mussolini banned the picture in Italy. Featuring zany caricatures of the Marxes, by cartoonist Sam Berman, to match their on-screen antics, this stone litho poster has been well restored to correct edge and fold wear, fold separations, pinholes, and small chips. Also addressed were some tears into the interior and a couple of minor paper lifts. The side borders each had a slight trim measuring about 0.25" that has been replaced, and all of the borders have been airbrushed. Original posters for this historic comedy are exceedingly scarce, making this three sheet an exciting opportunity for any fan of one of the greatest comedy teams Hollywood has ever seen.
