    Description

The Thief of Bagdad (United Artists, Mid 1920s). Rolled, Very Good. Russian One Sheet (28.25" X 42.25").
Douglas Fairbanks is in his element as the swashbuckling thief who loves the daughter of the Caliph, played by Julanne Johnston. Inspired by the famous folk tale One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, Raoul Walsh directs this top adventure with Anna May Wong also making a notable appearance as a Mongol slave. Written and produced by Fairbanks himself, the intentionally lavish production had a price tag of over one million dollars, among the most expensive films made during the 1920s. This Russian one sheet is a first time presentation at Heritage and features a jovial Fairbanks set against the trio of rival suiters also competing for Johnston's hand. Indications of use include edge wear, creasing, and some inked writing in the upper left. Other issues include staining towards the edges, paper loss at the edges with splices, as well as tears into the interior, including one through the lower image. The poster has a horizontal crease in the middle of the poster, and a partial horizontal crease in the lower image. There are several strips of paper tape on the verso.
