    Description

The Iron Mask (United Artists, 1929). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Douglas Fairbanks, one of the brightest stars in Hollywood and husband to screen legend Mary Pickford, practically invented the genre of the swashbuckler. His athletic ability enabled him to perform the most daring screen stunts of his day. This film was a sequel to his 1921 hit "The Three Musketeers" where Fairbanks once again reprised his original role as the dashing D'Artagnan. "The Iron Mask" was Fairbanks' last silent film, and the first and only time during his career that he "died" on screen. His screen death is perhaps poetic, symbolizing the passing of a Golden era in Hollywood. This lobby card has been mounted on linen to stabilize it and some light touch up has been done. There are some edge tears, the most prominent of which runs up through the title. There is also a bit of staining in the border. The beautiful image, however, with a dashing shot of Fairbanks, is almost untouched. Fine on Linen.
