    Description

Platoon (Orion, 1986). Original Mike Bryan Poster Artwork (30" X 44").
Oliver Stone would direct what would become his breakthrough effort with this gritty and uncompromising look at the battlefields of Vietnam. Orion Studios would produce four different one sheets for the release of the film and the one that used this iconic image is perhaps the most desirable of them. Artist Mike Bryan, coming from a fine art background and making his way into the world of designing record covers, Shaved Fish (Apple, 1975) and Rock 'n' Roll Music (Columbia, 1980), found he was in demand to produce movie posters in the 1980s. He did such well-known posters for such films as Scarface (1983), Prizzi's Honor (1985), Robocop (1987) and this great painting for a brilliant film. The image is done in airbrush, inks and colored pencil over a blueprint ghosted image on an ammonia based paper print. This amazing lot is in great condition for its age with just a few blemishes of note. There are a couple of white paint platters in the lower left of the image and there is some impacting of the lower and upper corners of the hard board on which the paper the image is produced on is mounted. The artist has written a brief discussion of his work on the artwork, which a signed copy will be provided with the artwork. Heritage and the artist both want the bidder to be aware that the image was produced with an underlying element which is an ammonia based print material that we are not sure how it will age with time. Very Fine.
