    Description

Gone with the Wind (MGM, 1940). Six Sheet (78.5" X 81.25").
As epic as the film itself, this dramatic Gone with the Wind six sheet makes its highly anticipated Heritage debut in the November Signature Auction. Shortly after the film's initial 1939 roadshow release, it went into a wider distribution in early 1940, and to allay the public's fears that the picture would be abridged, MGM announced that the only thing that had been cut were the ticket prices. Some of the first posters printed were shipped out with paper snipes attached to them announcing "Full Length, Nothing Cut," while others, such as this six sheet, were printed with the information on the poster. Unique from other poster formats for the film, the six sheet features an inset photo of the "staircase scene" with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, set against a blazing, Civil War-torn Atlanta in rich stone litho color. Professional restoration has addressed a chip in the top right, title top border, and in Gable's back and head. Touchup has been applied to creases at the top right, crossfold chips, and small tears in the borders and at the bottom right. Light smudging and spots in the borders do not detract from the overall high appeal of the poster. Fine on Linen.
