Description
Gone with the Wind (MGM, 1939). Three Sheet (41.5" X 78").This adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's classic novel of the Old South made Hollywood history by capturing eight Oscars including Best Picture, Director (Victor Fleming), Screenplay, Actress (Vivien Leigh), and Supporting Actress (Hattie McDaniel). This three sheet is from the regular release of the picture when producer David O. Selznick heralded the film as a "Limited Engagement." After the film's limited roadshow run had come to an end (February 1940), the film was booked into wide release and the public feared that the running time (at just over three hours) would be shortened. The blurb on this poster puts that worry to rest. Noted illustrator Armando Seguso, who created most of the artwork for the film's posters, rendered an elegant image of Leigh and Clark Gable on this very scarce three sheet. The poster has light spots in the bottom section artwork, a stain in the "I" in "WIND," a small scratch in Gable's face, tear and tiny chips in the left border, enlarged pinholes and tears in the top border, and chips in the right border and bottom right background. Minimal touchup has been applied to the folds and other signs of wear. The piece displays quite well overall. A remarkable opportunity for collectors of this classic and award winning film. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
