Description

Buster Keaton by George Hurrell (MGM, 1931). Portrait Photo (10" X 13").
Vintage gelatin silver, double weight, satin finish photo. After years of enormous success in comedy shorts and features, with which he had sole artistic control, Buster Keaton made the move in 1928 to MGM, where he had to contend with directors, producers, and script writers who all had a say in his projects. The constant struggle over scripts and ideas left the legendary comedian disillusioned and exhausted. This bittersweet portrait of Keaton by master photographer George Hurrell captures the humanity of cinema's master storyteller. The photo shows light handling wear, smudges in the borders, and ink writing in the right border. Recto: Hurrell embossed blind stamp. Verso: MGM/ Hurrell credit stamp in lavender ink, MGM/ Keaton credit stamp in black ink, a Modern Screen Magazine stamp, a Dell Publishing stamp, and a date stamp. Fine+.
