Description

The Magnificent Seven (Art Krebs Screen Studio, 1960). Saul Bass Silk-Screen Poster (25" X 35.5").
Here is a unique opportunity to be one of the few to own an original silk screen original concept poster for The Magnificent Seven. It was designed by the legendary Saul Bass and was privately printed by him in 1960, in an edition of 400, per records supplied to the consigned seller of the estate in 2002. The Museum of Modern Art, friends, and exhibitions, were the originally intended recipients of the posters, and those that remained in the estate after the passing of Mr. Bass have long since been distributed. What is very fascinating to poster collectors, is that this image was not used by United Artists. But to those that understand the origins of Bass's brilliant design it is a totally intriguing concept. The design directly relates to the very origins of John Sturges' remake of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai right down to the tilted ends of the number symbol done in the style of Japanese Kanji script. Surely, there were those at United Artists that thought the concept too difficult for the general American public, and that they "just wouldn't get it." Two tiny edge nicks are the only thing keeping this poster from sheer perfection. Rolled, Near Mint/Mint.
