Description

Hula (Paramount, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
On the heels of her success with Wings, the effervescent and buoyant Clara Bow was at the height of her fame starring as Hula Calhoun, a free spirit who falls for the very proper and very married English gentleman, Anthony Haldance (Clive Brook). Victor Fleming directs this light romantic tale which showcases Bow's dancing abilities in the exotic locale of Hawaii. This was the second film Fleming and Bow had made together, after the very popular Mantrap. The opening sequence features Hula skinny-dipping when she comes to the rescue of Anthony. Full of life and sex appeal, Bow was one of those rare talents, whose personality and charm could transcend even the lightest of plots and she easily captured the hearts of audiences world-wide throughout the 1920s. This spectacular stone litho image of the It girl is one of the best we have ever come across, a rare item from her popular hit. It has been professionally restored to address chips which are mainly limited to the border area, with one in the title and one in the image. There was a tear in the left side of the blue background, and fold wear. These issues are no longer apparent, and the gorgeous colors of this beauty make this one sheet really stand out. This will be a prized addition to any early cinema collection. Fine on Linen.
