Description
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in Great Guns! (Universal, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41").For the legions of animation aficionados this poster is the crown jewel. Before Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney was under contract to Universal studios, where he teamed with Ub Iwerks to create the character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, debuting in 1927. Great Guns is the fourth of only nine Oswald shorts Disney made in 1927 (he would make seventeen in 1928). Disney then asked Universal producer Charles Mintz for a bigger budget, which was rejected. At the end of his contract, Disney along with Iwerks, left Universal and, having lost ownership of Oswald, began creating new characters, one of which became Mickey Mouse. With a different animation team, Universal continued the Oswald series until 1943. This extremely rare one sheet from the earliest years of Disney animation, and the first prototype of the iconic Mickey, is a sensational find for a lucky collector. The poster had an area of missing paper in the lower left corner, and chips and tears within the image. It has undergone professional conservation, which has addressed the issues, leaving a stunning poster which displays beautifully. Do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a glorious example of animation history. Good+ on Linen.
