Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (Columbia, 1936). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Frank Capra took away the Academy Award for Best Director for this lighthearted comedy with a message. Gary Cooper is sublime as the "pixilated" Longfellow Deeds, who inherits a vast fortune, which comes with more trouble than he expected, but eventually leads to romance with a scheming reporter played to perfection by Jean Arthur. Cooper and Arthur starred in only one other picture together, also in 1936 and also a hit-- The Plainsman. Posters for Deeds are hard to come by, and this one sheet is a beauty. Prior to professional conservation, it had pinholes in the corners of the artwork, small tears in three borders, and a tear in the top left corner. These issues are no longer apparent, and the poster displays wonderfully. Fine+ on Linen.
