In Poland, the 1970s would see a loosening of direct supervision of artistic media from the "state." This would result in poster publishers (which were owned by the state) showing less and less influence over poster content. This original issue poster by revered artist Wiktor Gorka is an example of that very trend. With the newfound greater artistic freedom, designs by artists like Gorka could become much more aggressively expressive. Thus he created the "spinning-leg-swastika" motif, not in celebration, but indicating that even when being creative, Sally Bowles was trapped. Long considered the most evocative piece on the title, Joel Grey himself would say while hanging one on his wall; "..it is beautiful and unusual, much better than any other poster for this film..". We are pleased to announce that this is the cleanest copy we've ever seen. It could only have come straight from the original exchange.
