The Great Ziegfeld (MGM, 1936). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Luise Rainer won the first of her two Oscars for this fictionalized three-hour epic (which also won Best Picture) about the great showman Florenz Ziegfeld. William Powell has the title role, a smooth-talking impresario who convinces a European stage actress (Rainer) to appear in his new "Follies" show. Universal Studios originally held the property but sold the rights to MGM for $300,000 when it seemed the production would be too expensive. The film was a huge hit, netting $40 million for MGM, which more than compensated for the $2 million they spent making it. This lovely one sheet has some minor airbrushing in the title area to compensate for slight bleed-through from the reverse, but is otherwise pristine. Very Fine on Linen.
