Description
Mark of the Vampire (MGM, 1935). Lobby Card (11" X 14").Director Tod Browning has said that he remade his 1927 thriller, London After Midnight , with Lon Chaney, duplicating shot-for-shot for this still hotly debated horror classic. Unfortunately the 1927 version has no known extant prints. Posters for this title have been just as nonexistent for this film, particularly this Bela Lugosi portrait card, which many consider the gem of the set. Lugosi is giving it his vampire best in this scene playing straight horror. He wasn't told until just a few day's before the film wrapped of the twist ending that still sets off many a lively debate at film festival retrospective showings. That's Henry Wadsworth and lovely Elizabeth Allen in the card with Lugosi. This card had the left and right borders trimmed prior to being beautifully and expertly restored by laying the card atop another card and carefully airbrushing in the seams. This overlay leaves a mild vertical crease along the left border. The original image was completely intact. There has been some great touch up for a small tear in the bottom border, and a faint smudge in the title. The card is authentic, displays beautifully and one of the rarest cards from the set. We have never offered another copy of this card. From the collection of Kirk Hammett. Good+ on Cardstock.
