Description

Bulldog Drummond (United Artists, 1929). Insert (14" X 36").
One of the most popular of gentleman detectives, Bulldog Drummond was the creation of Herman Cyril McNeile and was featured in his series of novels from the 1920s through the 1950s as well as a string of successful films. The debonair Ronald Colman depicts the WWI veteran-turned detective to perfection, earning an Academy Award nomination and returning once more in 1934's Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back. In his debut performance in the title role, Colman comes to the rescue of Phyllis Benton (Joan Bennett) whose uncle is kept hostage at a sanitarium. Nearly dying at the hands of the evil Dr. Lakington (Lawrence Grant), Drummond comes through and defeats the doctor and his henchman Peterson (Montagu Love). This rare and desirable insert has been professionally restored to address pinholes in the corners of the artwork, small tears in the left and right borders, a tiny hole above Colman's name, and a diagonal crease in the lower left side. The poster was rolled but had a razor cut through the poster within Colman's name without any missing paper. In rich, gorgeous colors, this striking poster from a title of which so little paper has been found, will be a highlight to any top collection. Fine+ on Paper.
