Description
Godzilla (Toho, 1954). Japanese B2 (20" X 28.5"). Inspired by several very real events - the atomic bombing of Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II, the hydrogen bomb explosion at the Bikini Atoll in March, 1954, and the subsequent irradiation of the fishing boat Daigo Fukuryu Maru - Gojira made his silver screen debut in this eponymously-titled film on November 3, 1954. A modern-day metaphor for the horrors of the nuclear nightmare that had been unleashed upon the world, the film struck a responsive chord in the Japanese public, the only nation ever to suffer through an atomic attack. Gojira, or Godzilla as he was rechristened when he made his Western film debut, was an instant hit, and has since starred in the most successful film franchise in movie history. Offered here is the very rare country-of-origin Japanese B2 poster, the holy grail for any dedicated Godzilla collector. The photomontage not only features the King of the Monsters, but also his human co-stars Akira Takarada, Momoko Kochi, Akihiko Hirata, and Takashi Shimura. In superb condition, it had a misfold on the left side, and a small tear in the bottom center, but professional restoration has rendered these minor flaws all but invisible, resulting in a truly stunning, and highly desirable, piece of movie history. These posters are rarely offered at auction - we've only had one other in seven years - so don't miss your chance to add this glorious treasure to your collection.
