The Big Sleep (Warner Brothers, 1946). Three Sheet (41" X 81"). Philip Marlowe (Humphrey Bogart) is hired by General Sternwood to protect his younger daughter Carmen (Martha Vickers) from blackmail. Vivian (Lauren Bacall), the older daughter, is not too pleased by the prospect of a detective nosing in the family's business. The mix of twists, false clues and murder that Marlowe comes across in the course of the investigation makes this film one of the most confusing, and at the same time, classiest film noirs ever made. This unrestored poster has small pieces of magic tape on the backside of several of the cross folds and on just a few folds. There is a piece of old masking tape on the backside of each corner of both panels which make up this three sheet. The poster does have some slight cross fold separation and the lower panel in particular shows the ghosting of the image onto the white fields. The colors remain very strong on this lovely piece, one of only a very, very small number of these known to exist. Fine/Very Fine.
