Jesse James (20th Century Fox, 1939). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.
It took the talent and finesse of a great cast and a creative and savvy director to make us forget the historical inaccuracies and just enjoy this as a terrific film. And it didn't hurt to have one of the best illustrators of the 1930's, Frederic C. Madan, handling the colorful poster artwork. This very rare style B poster was kept for many years by an older rural farmer in Saskatchewan, Canada. The man who came to own the poster did a lot of work for the farmer without accepting any payment. Before the farmer died he insisted the man receive the poster in exchange for the help he had provided. This is how this amazingly beautiful poster has survived. The color is very bright with the main issues the top and left white borders. There are small missing chips in the top and right corners, and small tears along the top border. There are small cross fold separations, and a slight smudging in the bottom border. The surface has slight crinkling in several places. We have never sold a one sheet to this Western classic and only know of one other copy selling in 1996 from the Gunnard Nelson collection! A true rarity! Very Good+.
