Description

Mickey Mouse Stock Poster (United Artists, 1932). Three Sheet (41" X 81").
Mickey Mouse was born in 1928 with appearances in the silents Plane Crazy and Gallopin' Gaucho, quickly followed with the innovative sound short Steamboat Willie, which was an instant hit with audiences. With the new technology of synchronized sound animation, Mickey's popularity took off, and by 1932 he was one of the most beloved cartoon characters in America. It was in this year that Disney would win an honorary Academy Award for his creation. This never-before-seen three sheet is a stock poster used during the very short two-year period when United Artists was the distributor for Mickey's cartoons. Only twelve animated shorts were released by this studio before Disney moved on to RKO, making any paper from this time extremely desirable to animation enthusiasts. This unbelievably rare three sheet had corner pinholes, some small chips, a small hole under Mickey's right hand, and a chip and tear in the top right of the white background. These issues have been addressed with professional conservation, and are no longer apparent. A truly unique gem of a poster, this iconic image ushers in the Golden Age of Mickey Mouse and the legendary Walt Disney Studios. This showstopper will be a proud addition to any top poster collection. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
