Alibi Ike (Warner Brothers, 1935).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). "Alibi Ike" was the most successful film of Joe E. Brown's "baseball trilogy" -- the other two were "Elmer the Great" and "Fireman Save My Child" -- and one of the greatest baseball comedies in cinema history. Brown portrays an ace ballplayer who has a ready excuse for every circumstance that comes along, which earns him the nickname of "Alibi Ike." His alibiing habit soon gets him in trouble, however, when he falls in love with Olivia de Havilland and she walks out on him. Despondent, Brown goes into a slump, and is approached by a group of shady gamblers who try to get him to throw the World Series. The climatic finale has Brown escaping the gamblers and redeeming himself during the final game of the series. This poster has slight separation at the fold line intersections, pinholes in the corners, and one pinhole in Brown's collar. This rare one sheet has always had a tremendous appeal to baseball fans and cinema collectors alike. Very Fine.

The Virginian (Paramount, 1929).
Window Card (14" X 22"). Directed by Victor Fleming, this early "sound" western was based on the novel by Owen Wister and starred Gary Cooper as a Wyoming ranch foreman who runs foul of the sinister Trampas, played by Walter Huston. Cooper spoke one of the most oft quoted lines of Hollywood history in the scene where he's playing poker and gets insulted by one of the gamblers . Cooper places his gun on the table then stares down his opponent with the line, "If you want to call me that, smile." There are small holes, one fold line and one slight tear. The poster has been professionally restored, minimizing these defects. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
