"Thief of Baghdad" One-Sheet to be Offered by Heritage!

DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers (HG&A) will offer a rare one-sheet to the legendary Douglas Fairbank's film, "The Thief of Baghdad," in their upcoming Signature Auction, to be held November 11 & 12, 2005, in Dallas, Texas.

"Fairbanks was one of the greatest stars of his day," said Grey Smith, Director of Movie Poster Auctions for HG&A, "with each successive film proving a bigger and bigger success. Actor, screenwriter, director and producer, Fairbanks was among Hollywood's elite in the glorious days of silent films. By 1916, one year after he made him film debut in The Lamb, Fairbanks was already commanding a staggering five-figure-per-week salary."

"It was in 1920s, however, that Fairbanks became a true superstar," Smith said, "with the release of the swashbuckling classic, The Mark of Zorro. This film, which set the standard for all action-adventure films made since, was quickly followed by The Three Musketeers (1921), Robin Hood (1922), and The Thief of Baghdad (1924), all great adventure films that have remained favorites of movie aficionados throughout the years. Each is marked by Fairbanks' trademark humor and physicality - he insisted on doing most, if not all, of his own stunt work - and each remains a joy to watch."

"Fairbanks passed away in 1939 at the age of 56, but his films have remained evergreen, and paper from those films, especially the classic adventure tales, is highly sought-after by collectors. The poster offered here, backed with linen, is in beautiful shape, with stunning, bright colors and lovely graphics, and will certainly enhance any collection of movie memorabilia."

The Thief of Baghdad One-Sheet carries a pre-auction estimate of $20,000 - $30,000.
