Heritage Vintage Movie Poster Auction Posts Star-Studded Results!
DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Movie Poster Auctions (HMPA) held its latest Signature Auction on Friday, July 15, 2005, in Dallas, Texas. 93.44% of the 778 lots offered were sold, for a total of $1,076,740. 902 total bidders competed for lots, 220 of them successfully.
"Not only was this an extremely strong auction with great participation," said Grey Smith, Director of HMPA, "but I'm pleased to announce that this is the first movie poster auction to realize over $1 million in over a decade. It's very apparent that this hobby is growing stronger and more robust with each passing day."
"Bidders fought over a number of items in this latest auction," said Smith, "especially high quality material featuring such legendary icons as James Cagney and Alfred Hitchcock. I was particularly pleased with the amount of interest in the vintage exhibitor books we offered. Many of these, particularly the early Paramount pieces, sold for better than ten times their pre-auction estimates."
"Of course," Smith added, "horror and sci-fi material still leads the pack in terms of collectibility, but I was very happy to see increased interest in vintage romantic comedies and dramas, as well as strong competition for silent film material and foreign posters. There was something for everyone in this auction, and bidders responded enthusiastically."
