HERITAGE TO OFFER OVER 550 LOTS OF RARE AND VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS IN UPCOMING SIGNATURE SALE
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Vintage Movie Poster Auctions of Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers will hold its latest Signature Auction July 17, 2004 in Heritage's gallery in Dallas, Texas. Bids will be accepted live, and via Internet, telephone, email, fax, and mail.
Featured in this sale of over 550 vintage posters is a very special group of early Buster Keaton material, which includes a one sheet (27" X 41") poster to "Convict 13" (1920), a one sheet movie poster to "The Haunted House" (1921), a three sheet poster (41" X 81") to "Go West" (1925) and lobby cards from "Steamboat Bill, Jr." (1928), and "The Cameraman" (1928). "This is the largest group of early Keaton material assembled for one auction that I can ever remember," said Heritage's poster expert Grey Smith. "Keaton is by far the most sought-after of all of the silent film stars."
Also offered will be treasured pieces from such horror classics as "Frankenstein" (1931), " The Walking Dead" (1936), "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1931) and "Devil Doll." A collection of Bela Lugosi classic collectibles will be auctioned with the highlight being the life-size oil portrait of Mr. Lugosi painted around the time of his "Dracula" role, by artist Geza Kenda, which hung in Lugosi's home until his death. Also included will be posters and lobby cards from titles such as the very rare "Mark of the Vampire," "Black Cat," and "Dracula."
Not only such extremely rare posters from classic titles as "Citizen Kane," "The Road to Mandalay," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," and " Wizard of Oz," will be offered, but also examples of great film memorabilia. "This may be one of the best sales we have ever had due to the variety of the material offered," continued Mr. Smith, "with so many great titles represented from the silent era, the golden age of Hollywood, up through the seventies as well as several lots of great movie memorabilia. Where else would you find the original Leatherface mask and apron from the horror classic "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" next to an original 1913 Lillian Gish portrait one sheet from a Biograph Studios short film made in 1913"?
If classic foreign film posters are your collecting passion, Heritage's July sale will also include stunning posters from the likes of "Cabiria" (1914), "Jules and Jim" (1961), "Le Mepris (Contempt)" (1963) and a magnificent pair of German posters from "Asphalt" (1929) which were featured items at a recent exhibition of early German posters at the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Heritage sale will go online the week of June 22, 2004 at www.HeritageMoviePosters,com.
