The Philadelphia Story (MGM, 1940). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
Based on Philip Barry's Broadway hit, this comedy gem stars Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, James Stewart, and Ruth Hussey, and is directed by George Cukor. Howard Hughes purchased the rights to the play, in which Hepburn also starred, and gave them to the actress as a gift. The film would go on to earn a Best Actor Academy Award for James Stewart, and nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Hepburn. Offered here is a scarce and charming half sheet featuring a great image of the three stars. Prior to restoration, the half sheet had a chip in the yellow background on the vertical fold, and the right border had been folded back. Touch-up work has been done to the folds. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
