It's a common misconception that Star Wars posters without a rating were produced for international use, but that was not the case. This rare insert was printed early in the film's promotional campaign-before the MPAA officially assigned its PG rating. Concerned that the movie might receive a box office-damaging G rating, 20th Century Fox successfully lobbied for a PG, resulting in a brief delay. Consequently, the earliest U.S. posters-such as this one-were distributed without a rating, and some one-sheets even featured pasted-on rating snipes. The PG rating was ultimately approved just prior to the film's May 25th release, influenced by the brief but intense scene depicting the charred remains of Luke's Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. This example shows slight edge and fold wear, pinholes and/or pinhole tears, some creases/dimpling, slight smudges/scuffs, a few faint stains, and subtle foxing along the borders.
