A dazzling piece, this one sheet for Forbidden Planet captures the sense of wonder and menace that made the film a groundbreaking achievement in science fiction cinema. A gem among the camp-filled offerings of the 1950s, it fused high production values, a futuristic setting, and a narrative inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest into a sophisticated off-world adventure. Central to both the film and the poster is Robby the Robot, instantly embraced by audiences as one of the genre's most beloved creations; his popularity extended well beyond the film, leading to a starring role in The Invisible Boy and memorable appearances in films and television, including The Twilight Zone. With its innovative use of CinemaScope, Eastmancolor, and a fully electronic score, Forbidden Planet brought a new level of creativity and polish to science fiction, establishing a benchmark that influenced the genre for decades to come. Airbrushing to the borders and sparingly applied touchup to the interior has corrected fold wear, creases, small splits, slight tears, and a chip at the upper crossfold, also further addressed by replacement. It now presents quite well.
