Description
The Iron Mask (United Artists, 1929). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (41.25" X 78.75").Gorgeous stone litho artwork distinguishes this full-length portrait of the King of Hollywood at his swashbuckling best. Heritage has before offered this large-format rarity. A silent adventure film directed by Allan Dwan, the film served as a sequel to the 1921's The Three Musketeers. Douglas Fairbanks stars as d'Artagnan, returning to lead the Musketeers in a daring mission to rescue the imprisoned twin of King Louis XIV, who is secretly held behind an iron mask by the villainous Duke of Buckingham. The film combines exciting swordplay, daring stunts, and elaborate sets, showcasing Fairbanks' athleticism and charisma at the height of his career. As one of the last major silent adventure films, it marks a transitional moment in Hollywood, blending silent cinema artistry with early experiments in synchronized sound for effects and music. Backed to linen, the poster had touchup to the folds and chips at the junctions, a stain above the tagline, and chips in the borders, which have been painted. There are a few stray pinholes. Overall, the poster presents well and is a stirring representation of the earliest action cinema.
