Description
The Life of Buffalo Bill & Barnsdale Motion Pictures (Pawnee Bill Film Co., 1912). Very Fine+ on Linen. One Sheets (2) (28.25" X 42" & 28" X 42.25").When Buffalo Bill's Wild West show was declining in popularity during the 1910s, he turned toward the emerging medium of motion pictures as a way to preserve his legend and connect with a modern audience. In 1912, he starred as himself in the silent film The Life of Buffalo Bill, produced by the Selig Polyscope Company. The film was a mix of dramatized biography and reenacted frontier exploits, capitalizing on his fame and the public's fascination with the West. He made several other filmed appearances, including documentary footage and dramatizations of famous battles and stunts from his Wild West show. While his film career was short-lived, Buffalo Bill was among the first American celebrities to transition from live spectacle to the screen, paving the way for the cinematic cowboy heroes that followed. Backed to linen without any restoration, this pictorial one sheet is a beauty and anyone should be proud to have this grace their collection. Mounted to the linen with the one sheet, is a 7" X 28.5" snipe, that has a space at right to imprint the playdate of the film at your theatre. Included with the one sheet for The Life of Buffalo Bill is a stock one sheet for Barnsdale Motion Pictures, also backed to linen without restoration. It shows wear, tears and stains. An exciting lot.
