Description

Easy Rider (Columbia, 1969). Rolled, Fine/Very Fine. Seven Sheet (83.5" X 92.25").
Heritage is pleased to offer this excessively rare seven sheet poster for the original release of one of the most influential films in the history of US cinema. The success of this shoestring production, a quest for the true meaning of American its vast frontiers, ushered in the New Hollywood era, still unrivaled in its innovation and quality output. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper star as societal dropouts who embark on a motorcycle journey after a lucrative cocaine deal, meeting fellow misfits like Jack Nicholson and encountering a backward, closed-minded conservatism along the way. Given the culture wars of the time, the film struck a profoundly resonant chord and impacted generations of artists. We have never encountered or heard of another surviving seven sheet from this film. This copy was created for use around Los Angeles and survives because it was saved by an employee at the print shop because he was a biker himself. Printed in two panels designed to overlap, the poster is rolled though there is central crease in the bottom panel. It exhibits some creasing, tears repaired with archival tape to the verso, staining, and dust shadows, primarily away from the image. The dayglo remains as eye-popping as the day it was silkscreened, and the poster would make a significant, likely one-of-a-kind addition to any serious cinema or motorcycle collection.
