Description
The Flaming Crisis (Monarch, 1924). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 42").The Flaming Crisis was producer Lawrence Goldman's first film with an all-Black cast. Originally set for early 1924, production halted for ten weeks after lead actor Calvin Nicholson was injured during a cattle rush scene. Goldman started the project under Mesco Productions but later formed Monarch Productions, dedicated to films with Black casts. Based in Kansas City, Monarch was one of several independent silent-era studios focused on Black storytelling. Many of the film's actors, local to the area, have no other known credits. Nicholson stars as a journalist falsely accused of murder. After escaping to cattle country, he falls for a cowgirl (Dorothy Dunbar) pursued by an outlaw leader. Nicholson defeats the criminals, surrenders to the law, and is ultimately cleared when the real killer confesses, allowing him to reunite with his love. This poster has small edge chips, airbrushed borders, tears, and a strong diagonal pre-printing crease through the central image.
