The Spoilers (Selig, 1914). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 78").
This 1914 version of Rex Beach's The Spoilers is the first movie adaptation of the famed Gold Rush novel, which proved so popular that four more versions followed over the years. William Farnum stars in this version as a prospector who is cheated out of his gold by Tom Sanischi, a crooked commissioner. This leads to the legendary fight scene. which in this version, was acted out by Farnum and Sanischi, with no stunt doubles and no punches pulled, making this the roughest version of this film classic. This is offered for the first time by Heritage and is likely the only surviving example of this three sheet, which as great stone litho artwork of William Farnum being catured at gunpoint by Tom Sanischi. Prior to restoration, the poster had chipping in the bottom horizontal fold, chips on the borders, fold wear, and small holes in the crossfolds.
