Nearly every major studio passed on George Lucas's idea for Star Wars before 20th Century Fox finally agreed to produce it. Even then, many executives had little faith in its success and it was expected to bomb at the box office, though to the surprise of the studio, it became a smash hit with lines around the block for showings in New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere with ticket sales of $775,000,000.00 in its initial release world-wide. Becoming a cult sensation, the film spawned multiple sequels and prequels, TV shows and an enormous fan base. There is some light edge wear, small corner bumping, a minute split in the lower left edge, some soft bends, minor dimpling and the poster has slight toning. The half sheet art is considered by many to the best design for any of the posters on the title.
