Description
Blonde Venus (Paramount, 1932). Very Fine/Near Mint. Lobby Card (11" X 14").Marlene Dietrich is radiant on this remarkably clean scene card from her fourth American film with Josef von Sternberg. The pre-code drama pitted von Sternberg against the code office as the plot deals with prostitution -- Dietrich turns to Cary Grant's character to pay for her husband, Herbert Marshall's, desperately needed medical procedure. These scenes were toned down, though thankfully much remained in the film that would definitely have been censored just two years later, when the Hays Code was more rigorously enforced. Dietrich, in her cabaret singer role, performs some of her best known musical numbers, including "Hot Voodoo," contributing to the film's classic status. This scene of playboy Grant with showgirl Dietrich has always been regarded by devotees as the best in the set, especially since Grant only appears on a few scenes. The card shows only the merest edge wear, mainly at extreme upper left, and remains in fantastic completely unrestored condition.
