Description

Doctor X (First National, 1932). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
In the shadowy streets of New York City, a string of grisly murders unfolds under the light of the full moon, leaving the police utterly baffled. The victims are not only strangled but also partially devoured, suggesting a savage and almost inhuman killer. As fear grips the city, the press sensationalizes the case with a chilling moniker: the "Moon Killer." Shot in the striking early two-strip Technicolor process, Doctor X, a pre-Code horror-thriller, pushed boundaries with its shocking themes of cannibalism and provocative undertones of sexual innuendo-elements rarely seen in films of the era. Behind the camera was director Michael Curtiz, who would soon rise to prominence with rousing Errol Flynn swashbucklers and ultimately cement his legacy with the timeless cinematic masterpiece Casablanca. Backed to linen, touch-up has addressed fold wear, separations and small chips to the folds as well as the border areas. Portions of the yellow title and the borders have been airbrushed. Thanks to these efforts, the poster displays wonderfully.
