Levi Strauss (1950s). Fine on Paper. Advertising Poster (94" X 34").
An old Western custom, Levi Strauss jeans were coined "America's Finest Overall" denim company and was established as a leader in the clothing industry in 1850. The company began creating trendy jeans in the 1920s; however, demand was largely confined to the working cowboys, loggers, and railroad workers of the Western United States. First introduced during the dude ranch craze of the 1930s, Levi's popularity ultimately skyrocketed by the 1950s and could be seen among a wide range of age groups and subcultures. This vintage cartoon illustration depicts a group of local cowboys preparing to pose for a photo in their dark wash denim jeans. The poster is backed on corrugated paper and displays edge wear including toning, tears, paper lifts, scuffs, and smudges. The poster is visibly warped when laid flat.
