Description
Mae West (Paramount, 1930s). Rolled, Fine-. Linen Finish Personality Poster (22" X 28").Mae West was a bold and trailblazing actress, playwright, and screenwriter known for her sharp wit, sultry persona, and unapologetic embrace of sexuality. Rising to fame in vaudeville and on Broadway, she made a sensational leap to Hollywood in the early 1930s, becoming one of the most controversial and highest-paid stars of her time. At a critical moment, her films, including She Done Him Wrong and I'm No Angel, were instrumental in keeping Paramount Pictures afloat, filling theater seats and bringing in much-needed revenue as the studio struggled financially. West's suggestive humor and double entendres frequently clashed with censors, leading to stricter enforcement of the Production Code, yet her charisma and talent kept audiences captivated. Even after Hollywood's golden era, she remained a pop culture figure, starring in late-career films like Myra Breckinridge (1970) and Sextette (1978). A woman ahead of her time, Mae West's legacy endures as a symbol of confidence, independence, and wit in entertainment history. Poster shows tears and creases throughout, edge wear, and corner bends. There are strips of paper tape and masking tape on the verso.
