Description

The Iron Mask (United Artists, 1929). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41").
D'Artagnan and his Three Musketeers are riding again in this, Douglas Fairbanks' last rousing silent film and sequel to 1921's The Three Musketeers. Symbolic of the end of the silent era for Fairbanks, this was the only time his character died onscreen, marking his transition to talkies. Although the original release of the film was mostly silent, its soundtrack contained two short speeches by Fairbanks and a musical score with accompanying sound effects, included in the 1952 re-issue of the movie. Featuring the most captivating screen daredevil in a romantic drama of heroisms and friendships, the "one for all, all for one" aesthetic is superbly illustrated on this original one sheet from the film and includes a great closeup artwork portrait of Fairbanks. This poster has been professionally restored and backed on linen, the poster has received touchup to fold wear, chips, minor crossfold separation near Fairbanks' right cheek including the lower crossfold, and pinholes. Each of the borders have been airbrushed and parts of the left and right borders have been replaced. The linen has been trimmed closely the borders.
