Charlie's Stormy Romance (Standard, 1916). Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
This exceedingly rare one sheet for the Charlie Chaplin anthology film Charlie's Stormy Romance is the first example we've encountered. A bootleg released in 1916 to capitalize on the fledgling comedy genius's rising popularity, the film is comprised of footage from his Essanay shorts, including A Night Out, The Tramp and The Champion. Essanay unsuccessfully attempted to get an injunction against exhibition of the film, which was shown in Europe as well as the United States. The poster features beautiful stone litho imagery of Chaplin characteristically costumed as his most iconic creation, the Little Tramp, and it displays very well after skilled restoration has addressed a fold separation in Chaplin's face with touchup, and separation in the right of the horizontal fold with paper loss was replaced. The borders have also been airbrushed.
