Bedlam is a chilling blend of horror and history, with Boris Karloff delivering a menacing performance as the supervisor of London's notorious Bethlem Royal Hospital - infamously known as "Bedlam," one of the world's oldest psychiatric institutions. Produced by Val Lewton, the film aimed for historical authenticity in depicting the appalling conditions endured by the inmates, grounding its atmosphere of terror in grim reality. The result is not only one of the most haunting explorations of madness and cruelty in classic cinema but also one of the standout achievements in Lewton's distinguished horror library. Restoration primarily along the folds has addressed fold wear, creases, fold/crossfold separation, small tears/splits, and slight chipping at the crossfolds. Some touchup remains slightly visible.
