Description
The Ghost of Frankenstein (Universal, 1942). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").Following the destruction of Castle Frankenstein by enraged villagers, Ygor (Bela Lugosi) and the Monster (Lon Chaney Jr.) miraculously survive and turn to Ludwig Frankenstein, the younger son of the original creator, for assistance. Determined to rid the Monster of its violent tendencies, Ludwig contemplates a radical solution: replacing its brain. Unbeknownst to him, Ygor devises a sinister plan to have his own brain implanted into the Monster's body in a quest for immortality. The procedure results in disastrous consequences. Though the transplant is initially successful, Ygor's consciousness proves unstable in the Monster's body, and he is rendered blind. Overcome by madness, the Ygor-Monster rampages, ultimately destroying the laboratory and causing multiple deaths, including his own. Widely regarded as one of the stronger entries in the Frankenstein film series, this installment is complemented by an exceptional one sheet. Dominated by a striking image of Chaney's imposing face as the Monster, the artwork has become a cherished classic among collectors. Backed to linen, there has been touchup to some of the fold areas to address wear, splits and small chips. There has been airbrushing to small portions of Chaney's face and the top tag line. There is airbrushing to the top row of yellow letters in the title, as well as the yellow areas of the credits block at bottom. Additionally, the borders have been airbrushed to address small splits, chips and tape removal from the verso and the bottom right corner was separated and re-attached. Thanks to these efforts, the posters wonderfully.
