Description
The Wolf Man (Universal, 1941). Fine. Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").Produced by Universal Pictures on a modest budget of around $200,000, The Wolf Man became both a critical and commercial success, playing a key role in revitalizing Universal's horror lineup in the 1940s. Legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce created the iconic lycanthrope look, using painstaking techniques that involved applying layers of yak hair and makeup. Lon Chaney Jr., who portrayed Larry Talbot, endured the lengthy process to bring the tormented character to the screen. The transformation sequences, groundbreaking for their time, were brought to life through meticulous time-lapse photography. Expert restoration has addressed some chipped corners, tape removal to the verso, small splits and pinholes in the borders. There has been touchup to a small crack in Ilona Massey's dress and to the right, a portion of the green border art near the top left corner on both cards and some within the yellow title on one card. There has been touchup to portions of the borders, as well as to the white border between the title art and image area of one card. Thanks to these efforts, the cards display nicely.
