Description
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (Allied Artists, 1958). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. Insert (14" X 36"). Reynold Brown Artwork.During the heyday of giant creature films dominating 1950s drive-in theaters, writer Mark Hanna had a clever twist-what if a human, rather than a monster, grew to colossal proportions? Enter Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, with Allison Hayes as the unfortunate victim of a radiated alien scratch. As if that weren't enough, she also has to contend with a scheming, unfaithful husband who's only after her fortune. Fueled by rage, she begins to grow-eventually towering at 50 feet-as she sets out for revenge. Despite a modest budget of just $88,000, the film became a cult hit, proving successful enough to inspire similarly themed movies like The Amazing Colossal Man and The Incredible Shrinking Man. Reynold Brown's striking poster art-featuring a towering Hayes wreaking havoc on a freeway as terrified motorists flee-remains one of the most iconic images in sci-fi cinema. This example has pinholes, touchup along the folds, airbrushed borders, and light color fading.
