Description
The Big Parade (MGM, 1925). Fine+ on Paper. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.After directing films for nearly a decade, King Vidor was tired of making pictures that only played for a week and then vanished. MGM wanted to branch out into producing bigger, more quality films. Wunderkind producer Irving Thalberg had a solution to both problems. Thinking enough time had passed after the Great War, he envisioned a grand epic that portrayed the tragedy of battle. Their resulting film The Big Parade would become a runaway success and MGM's most profitable film until Gone with the Wind. Not only did it cement King Vidor as a top director and launch the career of John Gilbert as a matinee idol, but it had significant influence on future Best Picture winner All Quiet on the Western Front. For a film well regarded for both its realistic depictions of war and as a beautiful love story, this phenomenally rare poster highlights the passion between reluctant soldier John Gilbert and his French lover Renée Adorée as they embrace after finally reuniting. This poster displays beautifully, showing some small chips, slight creases, stains, and minor surface paper loss. While backed on paper, no further restorations have been applied.
