Description

Dementia 13 (Filmgroup, 1963). Folded, Very Fine/Near Mint. Horizontal Australian Daybill (13" X 30") Retitled: The Haunted and the Hunted in Australia.
Under the watchful eye of producer Roger Corman, a young Francis Ford Coppola directed Dementia 13, a low-budget psychological horror-thriller that marked his first mainstream directorial effort. Starring William Campbell and Luana Anders, the film unfolds in a decaying Irish castle, where a scheming widow (Anders) attempts to secure her late husband's inheritance, only to become entangled in a web of family secrets, eerie visions, and brutal axe murders. With its atmospheric black-and-white cinematography, moody gothic setting, and unsettling suspense, Dementia 13 blends Hitchcockian psychological horror with the emerging tropes of the slasher genre. Despite its modest budget, the film showcases Coppola's early talent for crafting tension and visual storytelling. Though not a major commercial success upon release, it has since gained a cult following as a precursor to Coppola's later masterworks and a significant entry in Corman's legacy of influential low-budget horror films. This unusual horizontal daybill displays spooky stone litho artwork. Bleedthrough from a stamp on the back is the only thing that prevents this from being graded mint.
