The Black Cat (Universal, 1934). Good on Cardstock. Window Card (14" X 22").
Director Edgar Ulmer's The Black Cat, with its themes of love, war, revenge, Satanism, and even necrophilia, was one of the most unsettling, atmospheric films to come out of Universal's Golden Age of Horror. It is lauded for its memorable Art Deco/Bauhaus sets and the inspired performances of the two stars, fright-masters Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Like most Universal horror titles of the 1930s, paper from this movie is always in demand, and this very scarce window card is no exception. Prior to restoration, the card was trimmed on the left side, going one and a half inches into the image, and the top section was also trimmed, going six inches down. There were several small holes in Lugosi's face. There has been airbrushing to all the borders and the card has been backed on cardstock. The restoration is excellent, making it display beautifully.
