Description
Who Pays? (Pathé, 1915). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 79.75") Chapter 10 -- "Pomp of Earth."This serial from the writings of Will M. Ritchey was an early example of anthology storytelling within a single serial film, as each installment featured stars Ruth Roland and Henry King portraying different characters in new stories and with new supporting casts. King not only starred throughout the serial but was also involved in its writing and direction, one of his first credits in both departments, anticipating his long-running career as a director with 20th Century Fox well into the sound era. Roland was one of the pioneering stars of the serial format and featured in several dozen serials throughout much of the silent period. Heritage offers for the first time in five years what is almost certainly the only surviving example of this three sheet for "Pomp of Earth," the tenth episode of Who Pays? The poster features haunting artwork of Charles Dudley's revenge-driven character leering through an open window. Paper loss in the borders, which comprises most of the wear in the poster, has been replaced and airbrushed, color touch-up was applied to the green and red borders, and some of the folds were also touched up to treat wear with separations along with some chips and tears.
