This serial was the first depiction of a superhero on film. Republic had tried to get the rights for Superman, but had to settle for Captain marvel instead. It turned out to be one of the best movie chapter plays ever filmed. Starring Tom Tyler as Marvel, with Frank Coghlan Jr. as his alter ego Billy Batson. Prior to the excellent restoration, the poster showed fold wear with tap stains, and several tears toward the bottom.
