Description
The Playhouse (First National, 1921). Lobby Card (11" X 14").It was Buster Keaton, much more so than Chaplin, who completely understood the ultimate potential of that wonderful invention "the camera." If you don't believe that, then you've never watched the film this extremely rare and lovely lobby card represents. It was one of the finest technical achievements of the entire silent era. Keaton and his camera crew literally invented, on the spot, techniques that were to be used for years to come. Using primitive but carefully orchestrated multi-exposures, Keaton plays over twenty roles in the film...two Minstrel interlocutors in black face and seven Minstrel men, a band conductor, a six member orchestra, two male and female audience couples, and a stagehand! And remember, this was a twenty-two minute short! That beauty Keaton is selling the theatre ticket to is Virginia Fox, soon to be known as Mrs. Darryl F. Zanuck for over thirty years. There are only dust shadows in the right and bottom borders, a small bend in the lower left corner, and two minor creases in the bottom border. Very Fine-.
